South Korea’s men’s basketball team, looking to return to the national team after a nine-year absence, won its first game at the 바카라사이트 Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
The South Korean men’s basketball team, coached by Chu Il-seung, defeated Indonesia 95-55 in the first game of Group D of the men’s basketball competition on Saturday at Zhejiang University Zijinjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.
South Korea will be looking to win its first Asian Games gold medal in nine years since the 2014 Games in Incheon. In terms of Asian Games held outside of Korea, it will be the first time in 41 years that Korea has won an away title since New Delhi in 1982. South Korea won in Bangkok in 1970, New Delhi in 1982, Busan in 2002 and Incheon in 2014.
South Korea scored 12 straight points to take a 3-3 lead early in the game, and finished the first quarter on a 20-8 run to set the stage for the victory. Heo Hoon (Sangsung) led the way with 20 points and seven assists, including five three-pointers, and Kim Jong-kyu (Wonju DB) had 19 points and nine rebounds. Ra Gun-ah (Busan KCC) and Yang Hong-seok (Changwon LG) contributed 12 points and 9 rebounds, respectively. All 11 players scored, except for Ha Yun-ki (Suwon KT), who did not play.
South Korea will play the second game against Qatar on Nov. 28 and the third game against Japan on Nov. 30. Three of the four teams in each group will advance to the round of 12. The group winner will advance directly to the quarterfinals, while the second- and third-place finishers will need to make it through the round of 12 to join the quarterfinals.
South Korea has had to make some changes due to a series of injuries, but their championship opponents are not at full strength either. China, a strong favorite to win the tournament, is missing key players such as Zhou Qi and Wang Zherlin, while Japan and Iran are also not at 100 percent due to suspensions. Last year’s FIBA Asia Cup runner-up Lebanon withdrew due to domestic commitments.
