‘Airball and ankle-breaking scapegoat’ humiliates No. 1 overall pick Moon Jung-hyun in international debut, still a ‘greenhorn’

No. 1 overall pick Moon Jung-hyun before his international debut. He was still a greenhorn.

The South Korean men’s national basketball team, 현금홀덤사이트 led by head coach Choo Il-seung, cruised to a 95-55 victory over Indonesia in the first game of Group D at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games at the Zhejiang Gimnazium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, on Saturday (Feb. 26).

South Korea made short work of Indonesia. Led by ace Heo Hoon (20 points and 7 assists), Kim Jong-kyu dominated the game with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 100% shooting from the field.

On a day when every player played as if they were warming up, it was a day of humiliation for Moon Jung-hyun, who was making his international debut. He finished with two points, one rebound, and three assists, not bad for his first game, but the process wasn’t going well.

Moon first stepped on the court 44 seconds before the end of the first quarter after being replaced by Yang Hong-seok. After that, he made mistakes and missed three-pointers. In the second quarter, he was switched with Heo Hoon at the start and didn’t play a second.

In the third quarter, he was replaced by Lee Seung-hyun with 1:17 left. Once again, however, he failed to register a point as his three-point shot attempt went wide.

In the fourth quarter, when the game was already decided, he played full time. With more time on the clock, Moon regained his composure. His three-point shot was still inaccurate, but he made his presence felt by scoring his first points with an assist from Byun Jun-hyung, followed by a steal and an assist, and then grabbing a rebound.

It was an unsatisfying international debut. Moon was selected by Suwon KT with the first overall pick in the 2023 KBL Rookie Draft. Of course, he was still too young to play with the best players in the league, but there were still expectations. Regardless of the outcome, the process was disappointing.

In particular, at the end of the fourth quarter, he was fooled by an Indonesian guard and fell to the floor. He fell victim to a common ankle-breaking move. He didn’t do anything special, but he went down. It was clear that he was very nervous in his first international game.

His three-point shot, one of his weaknesses, was also a big question mark. He was so inaccurate that he even had an airball. We don’t know if it was a lack of zero or nerves, but it was more of a negative than a positive.

The weakest opponent for South Korea at the Asian Games has to be Indonesia. The No. 1 overall rookie who couldn’t even hold his own against them. He showed a lot of confidence in the last rookie draft, but he hasn’t proven anything yet. It will be interesting to see what he can do as he faces stronger opponents in the future.
