Puerto Rico is looking for ways to improve its economic situation

One of these was to start paying dividends to the government through legalized sports betting. Puerto Rico’s sports betting market is still relatively small, as only track-based sports books are currently available. The good news is that the market is picking up, leading to significant tax revenues in the region.

The Puerto Rico Game Commission (PRGC) announced that as of mid-May, the government had recovered more than $400,000 in sports betting, local media El Boquero reported. The figures apply only for the last fiscal year running from June 2022 to May 2023. Puerto Rico approved 2019 land and online sports betting before finalizing legislation in late 2020. It took two more years for the GPRC to start issuing licenses. 경마사이트프로

Currently, only two retail sportsbooks are available: Casino Del Mar’s BetMGM Sportsbook and Casino Metro’s Caesars Sportsbook. In November, regulators approved another handful of licenses in March after approving another licensing group, including three sportsbooks and four service providers. These operations are still in the beginning stages.

A few months ago, the GPRC said online sports betting would arrive before the end of the fiscal year. As May ends, the window closes, too. GPRC chief Rivera Emanuelli now believes online sports betting could begin by June.
