Act No. 31557, which regulates online gaming and sports betting, came into effect on Feb. 9.
Businesses had until March 10 to apply for licenses. Minsetur warned those already active in the Peruvian market that failure to apply could result in fines of up to 990,000 pounds (€245,394/£212,401/$257,838) or face criminal prosecution.
The initial application process has ended for companies that are already active in Peru. Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Matthews confirmed that 145 requests were received from domestic and foreign companies. Companies that have not previously entered the Peruvian market can continue to apply.
During the initial 30 days, 144 linked service providers were registered with seven international accreditation labs, which included Gaming Labs International.
Mincetur also received 184 applications requesting approval for its technology platform and game forms. 경마사이트
“This is an important step that Peru takes to regulate this activity, not just because of the economic movements and revenue it creates, but also because of the need to provide security to the citizens who go into and use this application,” Matthews said.
Peru’s Online Gambling Market Status
Minsetur approved gambling restrictions in Peru in October. Oldest 005-2023-Minsetur described the requirements businesses must meet in order to provide services.
As of April 1, a 12% tax rate of total gaming revenue (GGR) was set for operators. Minsetur estimates that online gaming and sports betting will produce about $162 million annually in the state of Peru. It also expects about $3.8 billion to be spent on betting during 2022.
Of the taxes, 40% will go to Minsetur for control and oversight of online betting technology operations. Of the rest, 20% will each go to the state coffers, the health ministry’s mental health department and the Peruvian sports lab for the development of sports in Peru.
However, there is no tax on the athletes’ victory, and the tax only applies to companies.
