‘World’s richest club’ Newcastle can’t get it…insane buyout amounts revealed

Bruno Guimarães reportedly has a buyout clause.

“There is perhaps no more underrated player in this country than Guimarães,” said the Telegraph on Wednesday, while simultaneously shocking Newcastle fans. He is undoubtedly Newcastle United’s most precious and valuable crown jewel,” while at the same time delivering shocking news to Newcastle fans.

Guimarães joined Newcastle midway through the 2021-22 season and quickly became a key player and a fan favorite. The Brazilian’s technical skills, fighting spirit, and grit helped lead Newcastle to the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

Guimarães signed a new contract with Newcastle in the middle of this season that will keep him at the club until the 2027-28 season, making him the club’s highest paid player, but a buyout clause has reportedly been inserted into the deal. Referring to the existence of the buyout clause, the outlet said, “The figure is similar to the £150 million Arsenal used to sign Declan Rice. It’s even comparable to the £115 million Chelsea spent to bring in Moises Caicedo.”

The good news for Newcastle is that Premier League (PL) clubs can’t trigger Guimarães’ buyout clause. Guimarães has expressed his desire to play in Spain’s La Liga at some point. In fact, Barcelona have been interested in him in the past.

The Telegraph says: “At some point, Newcastle will have to sell their jewels. The league’s profitability and sustainability rules will require Newcastle to make a deal. Guimarães will not spend the rest of his career at Newcastle. There will be a point where he wants a new challenge. He is entering his prime and is good enough to win the PL and Champions League.”

Newcastle is owned by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund (PIF). The PIF has an estimated asset size of £343 billion ($567 trillion). Since the Saudi capital took over, Newcastle’s fortunes have risen rapidly, but they are not at a point where they can challenge for the title. If the Magpies continue to perform as well as they have been, there’s nothing stopping them from moving to another big club overseas.
