The International Trombone Association presented the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award to James Pankow. The Lifetime Achievement Award is an award that recognizes those who have distinguished themselves by contributing to the trombone profession over a long career.

Chicago’s lifetime achievements include two Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, founding artists at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the streets of Chicago dedicated to their honor, and keys and proclamations to an impressive list of American cities. Record sales have exceeded 100,000 marks, including 21 top 10 singles, five consecutive number one albums, 11 number one singles, and five gold singles. Of their 38 albums, 25 were certified platinum, and the band received a total of 48 gold and platinum awards.

Chicago has been touring every year since the beginning. They never missed a year. The original three band members are Robert Lamb on keyboard and vocals, Lee Loughnan on trumpet and vocals, and James Pankow on trombone. The band lineup also includes Wally Reyes Jr. on drums, Tony Ovrotta on guitar, Lauren Gold on keyboards and vocals, Ray Herman on saxophone and flute, Neil Donnell on vocals, Eric Baines on bass and Ramon “Ray” Islas on percussion.

With the iconic sound of the Chicago horn, their iconic vocalists, and dozens of classical songs, the band’s concert is a celebration. 2023 marks the band’s 56th consecutive year on tour.
