‘Reunited with Kim Jong-kyu after 5 years’…Kim Si-rae signs free agent contract with DB for 1-year total of 100 million won

The Wonju DB Promy Basketball Team has signed free agent point guard Kim Si-rae, who played for the Seoul Samsung last season, to a one-year, $100 million contract.

Kim was drafted by the Ulsan Mobis in the first round in 2012 and led them to a championship as a rookie, and also won a regular season title with Kim Jong-kyu at Changwon LG. He played 36 regular-season games for the Seoul Samsung in the 2023-2024 season, averaging 6.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

Earlier, DB announced the re-signing of Kim Jong-kyu. On the 17th, DB announced, “We have signed a new contract with Kim Jong-kyu for a contract period of three years and a total compensation of 600 million won (including incentives of 150 million won).”

Kim Jong-kyu has been playing for the national team since 2011, when he was in college, and has worn the taegeuk mark for 14 years. In the 2023-2024 season, he averaged 11.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1,2 blocked shots in 49 regular-season games, leading the team to the regular-season title with his strong defense as the mainstay of ‘DB Sanseong‘.

Park graduated from Sangmyung University in 2015 and joined the Ulsan Mobis before playing for the Gasworks, averaging 2.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in 35 regular-season games for Daegu KOGAS in the 2023-2024 season.

“With the signing of Park Bong-jin, we strengthened our forward lineup and expected him to perform well in my perimeter defense based on his strength and determination,” DB said.

Park Bong-jin said, “First of all, I would like to thank DB for the great offer. I am looking forward to the challenge in my new team and will quickly integrate into the team under the guidance of the manager and coaches.”

After re-signing Lee Sun-albano on the 13th and Kang Sang-jae on the 14th, DB is building a more solid roster for the upcoming new season for a second consecutive title. DB re-signed Lee Sun Albano to a two-year, $195,000 after-tax contract (approximately $342.5 million before taxes) and Kang Sang-jae to a five-year, $700 million contract (including $200 million in incentives).

Albano joined DB as an Asia Quarter from the 2022-2023 season, and in his second year, he averaged 15.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.5 steals in all 54 regular-season games to lead the team to the regular-season title and earn the Korean League MVP award.

Albano became the first Asian Quarter player to win the MVP award at the 2023-2024 Jungkwanjang Professional Basketball Awards, held at the Grand Ballroom of the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, last month, receiving 50 of the 111 total votes cast, beating out teammate Kang Sang-jae (47) by just three votes.

Kang, who successfully made the position change after losing 8 kilograms of body weight ahead of the 2023-2024 season, averaged 14.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 51 regular-season games, ranking second overall in domestic player contributions and leading the team to the regular-season title with a career-high performance.

“First of all, I would like to thank the club for recognizing my value as a player, and I will definitely repay the fans with a championship ring for last season’s disappointment. I’m happy to show them a good performance in Wonju once again,” he said.
