An Italian man who claimed thousands of euros in state handouts under his real name was arrested after he was seen driving a car, according to ANSA.
The 67-year-old claimed a disability benefit of 60,000 euros because of his “disability.” The police stopped him at a random traffic stop near Naples and initially fined him for not having a license.
“But after entering his name in their database, they found his details on a list of suspected disability scammers and realized he was just pretending to be blind,” ANSA said.
He was arrested and charged with cheating on Italy’s welfare system.
