What is the shape of the Las Vegas casino?

There was a period of about five years when one or three new casinos opened on this street each year. The casinos began in 1996 in the stratosphere (The Strat) and Monte Carlo (Park MGM). New York-New York opened in 1997, and Bellagio in 1998. In 1999, there was a triple header that opened two months apart, with Mandalay Bay and Venice opening four months later, followed by Paris. The New Aladdin (Planet Hollywood) ended the run, and it opened in 2000.

It was an exciting time in Las Vegas. I visited many of these properties on or shortly after their opening night. It’s been a long time since there were many openings all at once, but Las Vegas handled two openings weeks apart. One new casino has been closed for the local market, and the other has been shut down. After a two-week delay to the opening date initially announced, the Durango Casino opened on Dec. 5. Located at 215 Durango Drive, Durango is part of the station casino portfolio that primarily targets the local market.

Back on stage, Fountainblo Las Vegas has been in development for several weeks since 2005 and finally opened on Dec. 13, looking like a Christmas miracle. At 737 feet tall with 68 stories, it’s the tallest building in Nevada. I wonder if the video poker and dining options of these two casinos will show what to expect from future casinos. Neither building has a buffet. Both have food courts. I’m sorry. I think the mall has a food court. Durango and Fountainblo both have more luxurious food halls. Fountainblo’s food hall is called Promenade and currently has seven outlets: Break, Coffee Shop, Nonah, Sandwich and Salad; Byto, Sushi; Carphone Burger named after the chef, not castrated male chicken; and El Bagel, Miami Slice; and roadside tacos.

Durango’s Let’s Eat With Your Heart The food hall currently serves 11 “attractive dishes”: Irv’s Burgers; Prince Street Pizza, Ai Pono Cafe, authentic Hawaiian street food; Uncle Paulie’s, Deli; Fiorella, Italy; Yu-Or-Mi Sushi; Shang Artisan Noodle; Nielsen’s Frozen Customer; Vesta Coffee; and DrNK.
