Two days after Mace’s death, MLB will hold a special game dedicated to the Black League

The oldest professional baseball stadium in the United States was crowded with people for the first time in a long time.

The MLB Secretariat held a regular league game between the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, on the 21st (Korea time).

It was the home of the Birmingham Black Barons in the National League (Nigro League), which was formed by a group of African-Americans who could not play in the Major League or the Minor League due to racial discrimination in the U.S. It opened in 1910, ahead of the old Fenway Park and Wrigley Field in the MLB.

Hank Aaron, the “home run king,” Ernie Banks, the Chicago Cubs’ symbol called “Mr. Curb,” and Jackie Robinson, who broke down the wall of color in the big leagues, are also from the black league.

Due to his old age, Mays announced he could not go to Birmingham three days before the historic match and died a day later.

The MLB Secretariat announced earlier this year that it would hold a special Black League tribute game at Rickwood Field.

As a game to honor black players who have contributed greatly to the history of big leagues and U.S. baseball, black players who have fallen to a small number of Latinos in the big leagues have become the main characters on this day.

All five judges, including the atmosphere, were composed of black people. It is the first time in MLB history that all black judges have managed the game.

Eleven black referees have been active in the big leagues. All five black referees gathered at Rickwood Field to wear patches to commemorate Emmett Ashford, the first black referee in the big league, and host a historic match.

The official archives were also black.

Derek Jeter, the eternal captain of the New York Yankees, explained the meaning of the game, which was broadcast across the United States on Fox before the game.

Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds and the son of Willis, who died, came to the ground together to announce the start of the game. Jeter, Griffey Jr., and Bonds are unaccounted for big league legends and black men.

Players from both teams, who lined up in front of the dugout before the game, treated the players who played in the black league with utmost respect.

St. Louis defeated San Francisco 6-5 in the game, which opened with the first pitch of 99-year-old Bill Grison, Mays’ former teammate, this year.
