“That mother and that daughter”…First Mother and Daughter Gold Medallist Born in Badminton

In the final of the women’s badminton team tournament at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at Hangzhou Binjiang Gymnasium in Zhejiang Province, China on the 1st, Korea won a landslide 3-0 victory over China. In response, the women’s badminton team won the gold medal for the first time in 29 years since the team event at the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games.

It is the second time since the 1994 Hiroshima Games that the Korean women’s badminton team has won the team event. The participants in the team event at the Hiroshima Games were Jung So-young, Bang Soo-hyun, Gil Young-ah and Ra Kyung-min. Among them, Kim Hye-jung (Samsung Life Insurance), the daughter of Jeong So-young, the current director of Jeonbuk Sports Council (Jeonju Sungsim Girls’ High School), participated in the competition and won the gold medal after her mother. Kim Hye-jung did not play in the game as the national team players, who played first, defeated China 3-0, so she did not play on the day, but she was on the podium as a national team member who was selected together. 토토

Chung also won a gold medal in doubles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, dominating the world badminton scene in the 1990s. In addition, Kim’s father is a former player and coach Kim Bum-sik, who currently coaches the high school badminton team. Kim Hye-jung is the eldest of the three daughters the couple gave birth to.

The Korean women’s badminton team was unlucky to lose to China for five consecutive times, from the 1998 Bangkok Games, the 2002 Busan Games, the 2006 Doha Games, the 2010 Guangzhou Games, and the 2014 Incheon Games, and only reached the quarterfinals at the 2018 Jakarta Games. It’s been a generation since the gold medal was hung again.

Director Chung said, “I am proud of all our athletes, including my daughter Hye-jung,” adding, “It is important to win for the first time in 29 years, but I hope we will gain confidence through this competition and achieve good results at next year’s Paris Olympics.”
