Lebanon suspends all soccer matches amid ‘heavy fighting’

Amid Israel’s massive bombing of pro-Iranian militant group Hezbollah, the Lebanese Football Association has suspended all upcoming soccer tournaments in the country.

“Considering the situation in our country, the federation’s executive committee has decided to postpone all competitions until further announcements are made,” the Lebanese Football Association said on social media.

According to Middle Eastern media outlet Al Jazeera, the announcement comes just four days after the 해외 카지노 사이트 Lebanese professional soccer league kicked off.

The second round of the Lebanese Premier League for the 2024-2025 season was scheduled to take place over three days, starting on the 27th, but was unexpectedly postponed.

Fortunately, the Lebanese national soccer team will still be able to play its two Asian third-round qualifying matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup North and Central America in October during the A-Match.

That’s because both matches will be played in opposing countries, not Lebanon.

Lebanon, ranked 114th in the FIFA rankings, will face India on Nov. 12 and Vietnam on Nov. 15 next month.

Since dawn on Thursday, the Israeli military has carried out targeted airstrikes in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon and several areas in the south, hitting rocket launchers, command and control centers, and weapons depots, as well as in the capital Beirut.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that the death toll from Israeli bombing over the past two days has risen to 558, including 50 children, and 1,835 injured.

In response, Hezbollah also fired dozens of rockets toward Israeli military installations, bringing the two sides one step closer to the first all-out war in 18 years since 2006.
